How your location is used
SOS MEZ asks for your location only when you press Find my location or Refresh my location. Fresh GPS readings are checked every half second while this screen is open. Changing page, hiding the app or leaving it stops location access. Marker records follow fresh GPS independently of the road, junction and services searches. Motorway junctions are checked against the latest GPS independently of road and services searches. New junction numbers appear after two seconds. Map details refresh after movement or once a minute while stationary. After five seconds of steady accurate GPS, an extra check looks for a services area containing your position. If GPS or maps are slow, the last reading keeps its original time. Your coordinates go to OpenStreetMap Nominatim and the Overpass API mapping service to identify roads, markers and services or repair garages. Published Transport Scotland marker records and historical Highways England marker records are also checked. Record dates are shown. Historical records are labelled and may have changed. Your name, vehicle and contacts are not sent. Moving to a different location clears road and direction confirmations. Shared locations remain a single snapshot and do not track you.
